Neil Barbosa is a "performance painter" appearing at Modern China Cafe Aust 27th. Neil epitomizes the experimental and improvisational nature Modern China Cafe's Jazz in the Creek music performances! He paints to live music in a very unconventional manner. He not only uses brushes, but a plunger, his elbow and just about anything he can lay his hands on! He has toured across the country with dozens of well known musicians.

Neal's art studio is the stage he shares with bands and performers. As the musicians perform, so does Neal. He expresses visually and colorfully what the music evokes.

"...the band leaves Detroit for Chi-town. Up the tempo, up the snare, and Neal is bringing on the blues - cool midnight blue blows up the canvas from the right - looking like a mildly frenzied Picasso, he wipes his brush on his robed hip, using his elbow to blend the blues. Before the downbeat, the plunger is off and Neal is slapping colors as sharply as the snare slaps the bass line."
